This itinerary is great for teachers who are new to Spain. The capital, Madrid, is easy to navigate, has an excellent public transportation system to explore the rich culture and history, and provides ample opportunity to practice speaking español. For small groups, this itinerary is most affordable.
Ideas to customize this itinerary:
- Change the Toledo excursion to Segovia to visit el acueducto.
- Extend your family stay by one or two nights to maximize immersion time.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1 | Depart USA on flight(s) to Madrid. Dinner and breakfast served on overnight international flight. |
Day 2 | Arrive Madrid; transfer to hotel. Visit the Palacio Real this afternoon. You have the flexibility to plan other Madrid visits for your group as you wish! This could include exploring Puerta del Sol or a stop at Mercado San Miguel. Enjoy a prearranged welcome dinner this evening. |
Day 3 | Breakfast at hotel. Visit Museo del Prado this morning. Take an afternoon train to Toledo explore the winding, cobbled streets. Visits as planned by group could include the Primada Catedral de Toledo. Return to Madrid by train this evening. |
Day 4 | Breakfast at hotel. Madrid visits this morning could include the art museum Reina Sofia or a stroll through the Parque Retiro. This afternoon, travel to your family-stay community to meet host families. |
Days 4-9 | Immersion Family Stay (5 nights) - This is your opportunity to be immersed in the language and la vida española! |
Day 9 | Despedidas to host families and return to Madrid for final visits. Enjoy a farewell dinner tonight in the capital city. |
Day 10 | Transfer to the airport for return to the USA with many memories! |
