1 night each: Casablanca, Rabat, Fes, Dades; 2 nights each: Merzouga and Marrakech
This itinerary is great for groups learning French wanting to travel somewhere other than Europe. This program offers a guided tour of several of Morocco’s major cities with engaging activities and excursions. It is also a great opportunity for students learning Arabic to get immersed in the language.
Ideas to customize this itinerary:
- Make it longer or shorter, adding nights in Marrakech or Casablanca.
- Add this to the end of another program to France or Spain.
Daily Itinerary
1 | Depart USA for connecting flight to overnight transatlantic flight. Dinner and breakfast in flight. |
2 | Arrive Mohammad V airport in Casablanca. Transfer to your hotel and start exploring the city. Group dinner in Casablanca. |
3 | After breakfast travel to Meknes for a guided tour. From there, depart for the Roman ruins of Volubilis, the central administrative city for Roman Africa. Travel to Fes. Check into your hotel. |
4 | Breakfast, then your guide will lead you through Fes, the oldest city and the artistic and intellectual center of Morocco. Don’t miss the Jewish quarter and the tanneries. After lunch, see the handicrafts sold in the souks. Take in a panoramic view of the Medina. Return to the hotel. |
5 | After breakfast depart for Ifrane in the Middle Atlas Mountains. After lunch, continue along fortified villages to Merzouga for a camel ride across sand dunes to your desert camp. Enjoy a Moroccan dinner and Berber drumming under the stars. |
6 | Wake up early for a spectacular sunrise on the dunes. After breakfast, travel to the oasis of tissardmine, then continue to a nomad camp to learn about their culture and lifestyle. Next stop is Khamlia village to visit the Gnawa people. Lunch will be a traditional Berber pizza with a local family. Return to Merzouga and check in to your hotel. |
7 | Breakfast at your hotel, then take the road to Rissani. Pass through palm groves before arriving the High Atlas region of the Todra Gorges. Enjoy lunch and a short walk. Then continue to your hotel in the Dades Valley. |
8 | After breakfast, visit a rose co-op. Head to Ouarzazate called “the Hollywood of Africa” where The Mummy and Gladiator were filmed. Next, visit the UNESCO site of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, built by one of the last 19th century Berber chieftains. Continue to where Berber women produce argan oil. Arrive at your hotel. |
9 | After breakfast, start touring Marrakech. Marvel at jugglers, story-tellers, fortune-tellers, tooth-pullers, and snake charmers in Djemaa el Fna square.As night falls, peruse the food stands before returning to your hotel. |
10 | Breakfast and check out of hotel. Transfer to airport for return flights to USA. |
