Preparation Resources for Students
Student Guidebook: This booklet is provided for each student and covers the following essential topics: program expectations, passports, money, packing, health, travel tips and courtesies, family-stay preparation, gift ideas for host families, and suggestions for how to make the most of the experience, even upon returning home. L&F suggests frequent use of this resource during preparation meetings. Students are encouraged to read and re-read this guidebook to prepare for their program.
Preparation Meetings: Teachers will plan meetings in the months leading up to the program abroad. This will provide time for the group to get to know each other and form the strong bonds of understanding and knowledge that are necessary for succssful group travel. L&F provides a Suggested Meeting Plan to help teachers incorporate the topics and resources into their meeting timeline.
Hosting: Hosting a foreign student is an excellent way for students to prepare for their own experience abroad. They see first-hand what it’s like to adapt to new surroundings, how to communicate without worrying about mistakes, and why smiles and gestures are so important!
