Health Considerations
Language & Friendship asks that participants be in excellent health! The fast pace and strenuous nature of group travel requires high energy, flexibility, and resourcefulness. Success on the program depends on being physically and mentally prepared to fully participate and adapt in another culture.
It is vital that accurate information be given regarding health and behavior and that no information be omitted or misrepresented. Complete information is essential for the safety and well-being of the individual student as well as for the group.
Participants must be able to self-manage medications and health conditions. It is important that teacher/leaders not be expected to take on the responsibility of caring for students who may need more supervision/care than possible when responsible for a group.
Any physical and emotional/psychological health issues you have will follow you when you travel. New surroundings and circumstances can exacerbate existing issues. Please address your situation honestly and discuss it with your teacher/leader.
Any changes or additions to the health information you indicated on your application must be communicated to Language & Friendship.
Preferences vs. Restrictions
Regarding food, smoke or pets, if you indicate a restriction on your application and it is not controlled by medication, is it truly a severe condition that cannot be controlled with medication or is it just a preference? The distinction is important.
Dietary Needs
L&F communicates dietary restrictions and allergies to airlines, restaurants, and family-stay coordinators as needed. Note that some restaurants may not be able to accommodate all restrictions and host families are not expected to change their way of eating. Travelers with dietary restrictions are expected to eat what they can and take responsibility for packing/buying supplements if necessary.
